Kathy & Tracy

Moshi Moshi, which is Japanese for “hello,” was established in 2006 by Kathy Yeung and her friend Tracy. Tracy is originally from Malaysia and is Kathy’s partner. She oversees the banking side and checks the stock in the store etc. but they always work together at the craft fairs and bead shows. Their ambition is to eventually give up their full time jobs and turn what started as a hobby into a profitable and rewarding business.

Kathy, who was born in Hong Kong, was introduced to her craft by her cousin who lives in Shenzhen in the South of China; she, in Kathy’s words, “introduced her to this wonderful world of beads”. Her cousin made her own jewellery in her gift shop in China and this background gave Kathy the opportunity to learn her craft and develop her own style. She came over to the UK 20yrs ago and settled in Preston with her family this was when she began to experiment with different methods of designing the beads using stock from her cousin’s store in China.

These pieces were originally given as gifts for family and friends but interest was so great Kathy soon saw the business potential of creating a collection of jewellery that is unique, modern and exciting. Kathy took the collection to the local markets to sell and from there, quickly moved to selling them in local fashion outlets where her jewellery has become known for quality, individuality and value for money. Even though the majority of Kathy’s collection is sold at craft and bead fairs in the North West, she also holds jewellery parties and is currently expanding into mail order.
